Daphnia (also referred to as water fleas) are small creatures that can adapt to wide ranges in acidity, toxins, oxygen concentrations, food quality and temperatures by "tuning-up" or "tuning-down." the experiment was to answer the question: “How does alcohol affect the heart rate of Daphnia?”

The question:”How does alcohol affect the heart rate of Daphnia?” was answered by:
Getting multiple daphnias from the pond water
Placing the daphnia under a microscope and determining its heart rate per 10 seconds and multiplying that # by 6 to get its beats per minute
Adding one drop of alcohol to the daphnia and waiting one minute determining its heart rate per 10 seconds and multiplying that # by 6 to get its beats per minute
