The Darfur genocide that began in 2003, and still continues as of today took the lives of over 300,000 inhabitants in the area. The conflict began when two rebel groups rose up against the government in Darfur, which lead to the mass killings of the non-Arab population. In other words, most Darfurians were killed because of being “non-Arab”. The genocide in Darfur can be closely compared to the genocide in Germany of 1933 during the reign of Adolf Hitler. The goals of the mass-killings was an attempt of wiping out the population of a specific type of religion or race in a certain area. In Darfur, the Arabs killed the non-Arabs, and in Germany, the Nazis(Germans) murdered and tortured people of the Jewish religion. Time after each genocide, …show more content…
The most effective was most likely through media. Videos, music, poetry, and images each had advantages and disadvantages about their impact on the audience. First of all video was an excellent form of communication, and fit a lot of information in an amount of time. For example, documentaries, video segments, short clips and more. the videos leave a lasting depression about the situation as well. The constant reminder of the terrible state that the Darfurians ar in can make the viewer feel depressed and put them in a sad mood. An image is a decent representation of the situation of the Darfurians because it shows a photograph of the life of a civilian living in fear. The image does not give as much information, therefore making the viewer not want to aid as much to the cause. Poetry gives a satisfactory amount of information, but can be confusing, and the meaning may not be clear if one cannot understand the figurative language used in the work. Fourth and final is representation through song. Music is a tricky form of representation because the audience needs to pay close attention to the lyrics of the song.
