The movie Gattaca is a movie that was released in 1997 that involves our main character Vincent Freeman finding himself in a near future in which genetic engineering is common so much so that it has become the norm. However our protagonist Vincent is not genetically altered due his parent's choice prior to birth; this leads him through a wild adventure in which he takes on the personality and assumes the genetics of a greater individual and all the twists and turns that come with it. On the other hand the movie Dark City, a man by the name of John Murdoch too finds himself in a futuristic city in which it is always night but yet nobody realizes it. This leads into many perilous situations as he then meets people known as the “Strangers” who only can make things worse for him. Although two different movies released at different times, many parallels can be drawn. Both Gattaca and Dark City take place in a not so distant future where we live in a darker and unsettling lifestyle. Gattaca finds it's protagonist in a futuristic city that has a dark undertone that is obvious to the viewer where Dark City does the same. While watching both films the audience has a sense of urgency as to why things are going the way they are. Many things are revealed in each move as the plot progresses. Things such as The Strangers' identity and purpose, or to as how Vincent can narrowly pass as somebody else to keep the audience in a guessing throughout the films. This is due to both the directors' visions and overall direction of the films; not releasing to much info or foreshadowing at once.
