Darl Bundren Character analysis
“It takes two people to make you, and one people to die. That’s how the world is going to end.” These are the words spoken by the great Darl Bundren to describe the way people are born into this world and how they are going to depart from it. Darl is the second son of the late Addie Bundren and is considered the main primary character in the book As I Lay Dying. The book As I Lay Dying was written by William Faulkner in 1930 describing the life of a poor American family. Darl narrates over half of the book and is also the torchbearer throughout the story. All in the novel Darl shows three main characteristics that can be used to describe his personality most accordingly. He shows that he is considerate, caring, and loving through all the disastrous turmoil he is dealt with over and over again.

One act of consideration which was displayed by Darl, was when his mother died. Darl knew that his family was struggling with the trials and sufferings of burying his mother. So, to bring about the situation easier for his family, he thought that burning the corpse of his mother’s remain would solve the family’s problem.Although many considered that to be ludicrous, rhetorically it was just Darl’s way of considering what was best for his family. Darl also stays strong and tries to be the hero even when he gets betrayed by his own beloved family. Through all of that Darl embraces his hero like mentality by staying true to himself.
