Darlee is a 17-year-old young lady that came initially worried given persistent thoughts of hurting her parents. She presents blackouts when she is arguing with them and is immediately taken back to the time she witnessed her friend’s boyfriend stabbing her friend. She chooses to avoid people and stay at home because she has been feeling like she snaps at everyone. She has lack of sleep and her symptoms have been present for a couple of months. Her test score results were high with a 70 out of the possible 80, scoring 37 points over the cut-off score of 33 and resulting in a preliminary diagnosis of PTSD.

During his time with the therapist, he behaved as if he was not comfortable with himself and seemed as if he was ashamed of himself. He had a sudden outburst and told the therapist that he was sexually assaulted as a child, which has turned him into a socially awkward person. His symptoms have been present for over a month. His test scores were high with a 54 out of the possible 80, scoring 21 points over the cut-off score of 33 and resulting in a preliminary diagnosis of PTSD.
The test administrator hypothesized that Joseph’s initial lack of information was associated with feelings of shame, which is why he would not disclose it. The administrator also hypothesized that Joseph may have tried communicating his trauma to someone that may have invalidated his traumatic event, which may contribute to his fear to disclose. At the same time, Joseph’s lack of comfortability is influenced by negative emotions, including self-blame on being sexually assaulted as a child. Additionally, an invalidating environment may be adding to the feelings of shame and blame, which do not allow Joseph to feel safe or comfortable around others.
