Dasani’s Living Conditions In the reading Dasani’s Homeless life Elliot identifies how the elven-year-old girl had a pretty tough life. Dasani’s living conditions are much worse than what mine were growing up. She had to deal with mice and mold invading what she calls a home whereas growing up for me I never had to face any of that. Growing up I have always had my own room and Dasani has to share a little amount of space with her seven siblings and two parents. The sleeping situation for Dasani and her family was very difficult they only had a few beds because the room was so small they could not fit more. The mattresses in which they slept on were torn and they were stained very badly from some of youngest siblings using the bathroom in them. …show more content…
Dasani is constantly looking out and caring for her siblings. I think that doing that is expected but only to a certain extinct. She is only an 11-year-old girl and she and her siblings are walking the streets alone with her being the adult telling everyone to hold hands and when it is ok from them to cross the street. I believe that the adult role is very inappropriate for her age. Also, Dasani is paid to watch Baby Lee while her parents are doing other things. I also believe that this an inappropriate role for Dasani to be taking on only being 11 years old. I do not believe an 11-year-old knows everything there is to know when it comes to taking care of a small child. If there was a serious emergency would Dasani know how to handle things appropriately. Dasani’s parents are giving her way more responsibility than she ought to have. When I was eleven years old I was not allowed to stay home alone let alone with 6 other children and a small baby. My parents also did not allow me to be walking outside alone because dangerous things could happen and being only eleven years old I could not handle every situation. I do not believe that I would have even personally wanted the responsibility of watching after seven other children when I could barely keep up with myself. A lot of parents have different ways of raising children and I see that my parents and Dasani’s ways were completely different when it comes to giving a little of that
