David and Goliath DBQ

In 1 Samuel 17, David is determined that God will lead him to a victory over the gigantic Philistine Goliath. He says to Saul, “God, who delivered me from the teeth of the lion and the claws of the bear, will deliver me from this Philistine (1 Samuel 17:37).” In other words, God has given David the strength and power to defend himself in the past, and he will do this again so that David can protect his people from Goliath and the Philistines. Saul doubts his ability to fight and offers a heavy set of armor to David. David, who is not used to fighting with such heavy armor, refuses to wear it and instead grabs his shepherd's staff.
