Davy Crockett was a great hero in the War of 1812. Many people looked up to him in these times and people still do. Some people celebrated him as a mythologized hero. People say there were two different Crocketts; one was a Congressman, and the other was a wild Frontier Man. Crockett was born in east Tennessee on August 17, 1786. His parents were named John and Rebecca Crockett and they were pioneers. He was the fifth of the nine kids in his family. He joined school when he was thirteen and he fought the class bully. Crockett was scared to face the consequences so he ran away for two years in the wilderness. Crockett and his family moved towards the west three times while he was a kid for a better life. Crockett kept moving west throughout his life. At eighteen Davy finally learned to read and write. Davy Crockett did many things from being in politics to fighting battles and protecting his country. He was a hero in the Battle of the Creek Indians. He fought some battles with Andrew Jackson in Pensacola. In 1821 Crockett was elected into the State Legislature. He was in the United States Congress from 1827-1833 as a democrat. He ran for his fourth term in the United States Congress but barely lost. For some of his life he made a living off of bear hunting. Crockett was always not very successful in trying to get things past in Congress. There was a play in 1831 which made Crockett a legendary figure. In 1835 he helped save Andrew Jackson's life when there was an assassination attempt. Crockett had only been living in texas for three months before he was killed in the battle of the Alamo. He was one of the last people to die in the Alamo.
