Just imagine coming home to find out that your family has deserted you and left you homeless. This was the fate of Dawn Loggins; however she was able to overcome the test and trials of life. Being born in a small town, growing up in a poor and unstable living condition, not having the necessities and supplies for a well-balanced childhood, abandoned by your parents and forced to make a living while trying to survive senior year and make good grades and manages to get into one of the most prestigious universities in the US, Harvard University. Well that’s the story of Dawn Loggins and someone like that deserves to speak at the Five Forks Eighth Grade Award Ceremony to be a good example for the students at this school giving them courage to …show more content…
Overcoming many obstacles in life. Dawn lived with her grandmother until age 12 and would wear the same clothes to school every day and she never had the privilege of taking showers, or drinking water but would have to take buckets to the Town Park to get water from the spigots. (Seattle Times) Then she moved in with her Stepdad and Mom which she thought would give her a better life but instead it turned out to be worse, when her Stepdad lost his job and got arrested for drug dealing the money that they used to bail him out was the money that was needed to pay for the bills. Their family went through many evictions which caused them to move around so many times that she wasn’t able to keep up with school. (CBS news, 1) When she went to a summer camp in Massachusetts little would she know when she came back her parents would not be there and she was left homeless. From there she would have to provide for herself from getting a job to finding a place to live. After sometime with the help of her school she managed to find a place to live with one of the workers at the school. With a 3.9 GPA she applied for many Scholarships and finally applied to Harvard where she got an acceptance
