Throughout the history of the U.S.A, power has always been a very influential factor when it comes to how the nation is governed. In addition, power- described as strength, force, and the ability to influence events- has and continues to be very important to the government and the citizens who live under that government. For instance, this was seen in the Revolutionary War, in which American colonists fought against the British in order to have the right and power to be independent. Therefore, after the Revolutionary War, American colonists were no longer British citizens or loyal to the king so, they were able to become a new independent nation. For example, they decided to give the government enough power to protect the people while still maintaining the rights of the people and the states. Thus, even today the United States runs according to those principles, which are written down in the Constitutional Amendment. However, today the government has started to empower its governance over its people causing many to start questioning whether the government has the right to take away basic unalienable rights and liberties granted in the Constitution. In addition, one argument being made is that the government does have the right to take away basic unalienable rights and liberties granted in the Constitution as argued in Sources 1 and 2. In contrast, Sources 1 and 4 support the argument that the government doesn't have the right to take away basic unalienable rights and liberties granted in the Constitution. Therefore, there are times in which the people will have to give up their power and rights in order to protect their country and families. For instance, this people believe that if the government has the right to take away some of the liberties of its people than they would be able to increase the safety of the people. According to Source One, "Is Someone Watching Me?" It states "However, according to the NSA, over 50 terrorist attacks have been adverted as a result of these surveillance programs." Therefore, this shows that if the people cooperate with the government by giving up some of their liberties and rights, even if it violates the Bill of Rights, in this case the 4th amendment, then the government might be able to have a better chance of protecting the country by preventing terrorist attacks. In addition, according to Source Two, "AR-15" it states "Again the AR-15 was used on December 14, 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School that resulted in 26 deaths. And again the AR-15 was used in the September 16, 2013 Navy Yard shooting that left 13 dead. Because of these events, the question of should the right to own guns like the "AR-15" be allowed. Those in favor of gun control point to the recent shootings for their justification and the high number of gun related deaths in America."
