A son began to think twice about having his elderly father live in a nursing home when he learned he left the building on his own, but then he had no problem making his decision when he discovered it happened again.

According to NBC4i, the elderly man walked out of the Capital Health and Rehabilitation Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, with nobody watching not once, but twice, and nobody even realized he was gone both times.

The first time he made his escape he ended up outside under a tree after a visitor let him out. The second time he made it all the way to a restaurant close to the nursing home before his son found him.

His son decided it was time to move his father to keep him safe by requesting a transfer to another nursing home.

Documents say nurses reported that:

The maggots were, like, going inside his penis. It’s just gross. Nasty. I’m not going to say it was a handful, but it was a lot. They were little.
The maggots caused a urinary tract infection in the helpless man who could not do anything to protect himself from the insects.

A survey of the nursing home stated it:

Failed to ensure necessary care and services were provided for hygiene and urinary catheter maintenance.
Nurses said fly's had also taken over, but didn't seem very concerned that they were in the man's bed with him:

The flies were real bad down there. We had fly swatters. I have killed a couple of flies in his room and one was under the covers. But I didn’t think anything about that.
