Mansa Musa traveled to Mecca on his hajj, spreading wealth all throughout the land. Although he said that he "came for the pilgrimage and nothing else", evidence points to him going for a different reason. He said he just went for his hajj, but the real reason why he went was to make more people come to Mali.
Some evidence that helps support the true reason for Mansa Musa's journey is that he brought 24,000 pounds of gold (Document A) with him. He had 12,000 personal servants, 500 of which carried the gold. The reason why he brought that much gold was so he "left no court emir nor holder of a royal office without the gift of a gold load" (Document E).
