The nomadic tribes who conquered the Roman Empire cannot be called barbarians because like everyone else they want to rule, have their own land, and have different customs and morals from the Roman’s. Over the years the Romans lighten up their harsh views on the nomads. Empires are caused by people wanting to have power and rule just like the nomads want to achieve as shown in documents 3 and 8. Document 3 discusses that the nomads are driven by money and wanting to dominate. The document was written by a Roman historian in the 3rd century and he writes the nomads as nasty rude people. King Theodoric of the Roman Empire speaks of ruling and maintaining morality in document 8. Both documents support that the nomads and Romans want to rule and have money. Documents 2, 5, and 7 say that the nomads are not barbarians but want to own land. Document 2 shows that the “barbarian king” wants to build his own empire and take as much land as possible. The Battle of Hadrianopolis in document 5 says the nomads would do anything to take the land. This document was also written in the 3rd century and it shows the writer’s harsh views of the nomads. Document 1 explains that the nomads love each other and are also good to one another it is a part of their customs. Document 4 shows that nomads are nice people who are liked and receive gifts. When the Romans were invited to eat with the Attila they were shown some of the traditions done in a nomad’s household, like praying before the group could sit down and eat, as said in document 6. This document was written in the 4th century and the Romans do not say harsh things about the nomads, which shows that over the century the Romans lightened up to the
