The Roman Empire was one of the most powerful empires in the history. The marvelous city was declined for political, economic, religious reasons which eventually led to the fall of the giant empire. The empire keeps expanding and when something grows, it always falls back. Between 750 and 600 B.C., the cities became prosperous and brought the Italy into closer contact with Greek civilization. However, in 264 BC., Rome and Carthage went to war which was the beginning of the long war called Punic Wars. After Punic war, Rome gain a lot of lands but it made it difficult to govern during war times. With a lot of soldiers, the government had to pay them and it took out a lot of money. Another major factor was the overexpansion of the empire. It made it very hard for the leaders to control over the huge size of the empire which eventually leads the territory to split in half. The split makes half of the Western too weak to defend, making it to fall. However, in 324 A.D., an emperor known as Constantine reunited the west and east and named the city called Constantine under his name. However, the empire was again divided after his death. Document 2 stated that one of the cause for the fall of Rome was the introduction to Christianity. I also believe the spread of Christianity weaken the empire as a whole. As the document mentioned, “A large portion of public and private wealth was consecrated to the demands of charity and devotion.” This means that the rich people’s wealth was taken away in order to give it to the charity. The main problem was the people itself. They didn’t believe the empire was worth saving and gave up on the old civilization. According to the author, the people “could not organize to protect themselves; they could not serve in the army... their economic plight was hopeless.” Many jobless people realized that the cities are falling apart but they didn’t care about their land because
