The Women’s Rights Movement was an important movement that occurred in the nineteenth century. In that time, there were many issues that caused this movement to begin. Women had no representation in government, since they could not vote, yet had to obey the law and pay property taxes. Wives were considered property of their husbands, who were legally allowed to beat them or even imprison them, and could not own their own property. They had very little opportunity for jobs, and the wage was much less than a man’s. If a woman was married, her wages would belong to the husband. Divorce and custody laws were favored towards the husband. Along with this, colleges would not accept women and women had no means to receive a better
