It was interesting that de Las Casas speaks to Sepulveda’s disdain for the Indians by making a reference to the Romans conquering the Spaniards. If one is going to refer to a civilization as barbaric, should they not take into consideration the fact they may only be responding in accordance to the imperialistic empire that is forcing their will and belief on their society? The natives were defending what was rightfully theirs, I see that as a barbaric act, but as a means to an end to retain their lands and their way of live.
