ASL Deaf Awareness Week To celebrate Deaf Awareness Week in Clemson, Bo Clements held an event in which he described his life growing up oral with a hearing family and how ASL impacted his life. Bo was born to two hearing parents as the first child in 1966, and when he was 2 years old, his family discovered that he was deaf. His family did not have any deaf experience, so they were very scared and felt guilty for their son being deaf. At the time, ASL was forbidden, making communication for Bo and his family and friends practically impossible. Bo was forced to speak and learn how to speak since he was not allowed to use ASL in schools or have interpreters to explain concepts to him. Being placed in an incubator after being born 2 months
