Deaf President Now was a protest in March 1988, at Gallaudet University. The university had never once been led by a Deaf president since it was formed. The protest began when it was announced that a hearing person was picked as its seventh president, instead of the qualified Deaf canidates. Gallaudet students, as well as staff, and faculty, shut down the campus with a protest. The protest ended after their demands were met. Thus, King Jordan, a deaf person, became the university's president.
