In David Fincher's Fight Club, one of Tyler's philosophy was to use death as an incentive to improve the lives of people who couldn't reach their desire due to distractions, laziness, or fear. After Tyler took out the gun from the Narrator's bag, he told him to meet him in the back. The scene starts with a close-up shot of Raymond's scrunched up face as Tyler questioned him, "What did you want to be, Raymond K. Hessel?" The camera jump cut to a gun with its synchronous sound as Tyler cocked its hammer. In a medium shot, Tyler yelled, "The question Raymond was what did you want to be?" In a reaction shot, Raymond's lips quivered. Cross cut to the Narrator as he shouted, "Answer him, Raymond! Jesus!" Repeatedly, Raymond responded, "Veterinarian!" Raymond picked up his wallet, staggered to his feet, and run away as the two watched him flee. While blurred in the foreground, the Narrator confronted Tyler and said, "This isn't funny! That wasn't funny! What the fuck was the point of that?" Tyler brought the ID on his face saying, "Tomorrow will be the most beautiful day in Raymond K. Hessel's life. His breakfast will taste better than any meal you and I have ever tasted." As Tyler threw the gun back to the Narrator, the voice-over admitted, "You had to give it to him. He had a plan and it started to make sense in a Tyler sort of way. No fear. No distractions." The Narrator pulled the trigger and the camera revealed that it was empty. To begin, in a close-up shot, Tyler fired up the question that he always asked which is what would someone do if he was going to die at that moment.
