The Choice is Theirs Brittany Maynard was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 29. She had went to Oregon to take advantage of the “Death with Dignity Act” and end her own life (430). The Death with Dignity Act lets anyone with a life threatening illness choose to end their lives. This act should be available to everyone and everywhere in the United States. It will help patients that are diagnosed with life threatening diseases, such as cancer. Cancer patients should have the right to choose if they want to end their life or not because they would enjoy their last moments with their loved ones, more engages in activities that fulfill their life, and would not have to suffer from painful treatments. The first reason why cancer patients should have the right to decide whether they can end their lives or not is because they would enjoy their last moments with their loved ones. As a cancer patient they would probably not have the opportunity or time to do things that they have always wanted to do for example, exploring new places, skydiving, or just as simple as eating everything that they could not eat before.
