Decision Making Process

I time in my life when I had to make a professional decision, in the year 2012, was when I had to make a decision about which college I wanted to attend. Deciding which college to attend is a very important decision because there are steps that you take when enrolling in college. For me I had to decide which college is best for me because I am a mother and at the time I worked part time. There are so many colleges to choose from which made the decision process difficult.
There are six steps in the decision-making process. In order for me to make a decision about what college I wanted to attend I had to first identify the problem. “Recognizing that a problem or opportunity exists is only the beginning of this stage. The decision maker must dig in deeper and attempt to diagnose the situation (Bateman & Snell, 2011).” The problem that I had is that I have a 2 year old daughter and part time job. My daughter is at an age where she is very busy. Also with me having a part time job I don’t make a lot of money so I have to think about getting to and back from college which requires gas. The second and third step is to generate alternative solutions and evaluate alternatives. Since I don’t make enough to go back and forth to college I had to make a decision that an online college was best for me. I had attended one other college before and had taken college courses in high school so I knew some credits would transfer. The fourth step in the decision making process is to make a choice. I decided to attend The University of Phoenix because it is a year round; the classes started every 9 weeks and I would be able to finish my Associate of Arts in Business degree
