How many puritans does it take to screw in a light bulb? None, they were all hanged for being witches! This is just a small example of how puritans were closely knitted in with their church, they had no confidence to steer their own beliefs. Deists however are in a tier completely of their own, being churches of their own. However the group with the most confidence would have to be the transcendentalist who had no guidance at all, each knowing where the true church was. Throughout these philosophies in the United States, one can see how society slowly separated from church, learning how to steer their own ship to the heavens.

You can see this in The Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson he has much more religious confidence then the puritans. As quoted “They are endowed by their creator with inherent and inalienable rights;(Pg 141)”. The reason this shows religious confidence is simple. Jefferson is able to use his belief to fact what he is saying. Unlike the puritans who mostly write to secure their religion, he is using it for America's own gain. A great example of the diest strong confidence in their own belief or religion is Thomas Paines The Age of Reason. When talking about his thoughts on religion he states “I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church.()”. This is the strongest point for diest people's confidence with their belief. During puritan times people had to be basically herded by the church, however a deist man says his own mind is the church and that he will determine which is a work of his creator and what is not! To sum up, all this shows that diests are nothing like the puritans. They have no motive to go to church and will translate their creators work in their own words without the help of a
