Getting Independence How would you feel if people told you how to live your life? The colonists fought for Political Freedoms, Economic Well Being, and safety. The colonists were justified in wanting independence with England for those 3 reasons. Although the colonists fought their hardest, they had a lot of political freedoms to overcome. Therefore taxation without representation was when the british taxed the colonists for no reason. Also the British banned the legislature in response to the intolerable acts because they can't discuss their problems, so it gets harder for the colonists. Forinstance the sugar act were taxes put on several products, and was passed by the parliament in 1764. Including the Intolerable acts, parliament passed four harsh laws in 1765, in response to the Boston Tea Party. Also in 1773 the British parliament passed the tea act. The Tea Act was to help the British East India Company. The Tea Act lowered the price of tea. It is true that the British were successful in defeating a lot of colonies. Certainly, the British were very powerful and were able to get a lot of things to go there way. However, Britain's war against the Native American colonists was no use to the British. Therefor the native American colonists declared war as a result to the Intolerable acts and colonists were able to defeat the British. More importantly than Economic Well Being, the colonists needed safety. They needed to feel protected, but they didn’t feel that way. First of all, the Battle of Bunker Hill helped them feel safe and protected. It made them feel like they would win. Next was the Boston Massacre. March 5, 1770, some people threw rocks at the soldiers. Which made them fight each other and some people died from it, it caused an unsafe war. Lastly, the Lexington and Concord gave information to the colonies of what is going on. It made them feel like they would lose the battle. Nothing really helped them.
