While it is said that the “juvenile that has been arrested for violent crimes have dropped to a thirty year low as well as there are fewer teens that are being locked up than at any time in nearly twenty years, which is according to the National Center for Juvenile Justice” (Smith, 2015). In reviewing the reading assignment, I believe the reasons for a decline in juvenile delinquency is due to many reasons. One reason may be juveniles are more than likely to be arrested for status offenses, which are described as unlawful for children that are under a certain age (Regoli, Hewitt, & DeLisi, 2014). Examples of status offenses are described as running away from home or drinking alcohol. Sex and gender may be another reason why there is a decline.
