Deep fried Oreos, so unhealthy but they could be extraordinarily beneficial for the environment by recycling the oil used in the frying process. The vegetable oil castoff in the deep frying process could be used as an alternate fuel source when one considers that currently the majority of automobiles run on fossil fuels that have a limited life span. While these fuels could last our generation and maybe the following, what about planning ahead for our grandchildren and the world left to them? There are alternatives to the fossil fuels however there is a cost to using the food that humans can eat as a fuel source. This corn stover is the byproduct after the food or ear of corn is harvested. This is considered a starch based ethanol and is the most common as well as sugar based ethanol. A benefit of using these starch or sugar based ethanols as full is the renewed harvest every year. With the changing of seasons fresh fuel is grown and crops are rotated efficiently they the yields can be high. Growing these crops rather than digging in the dirt could lower carbon dioxide emissions. According to Gregg Marland the carbon dioxide emission from switching could save anywhere from as high as forty percent to as low as twenty percent. On television when they discuss global warming the levels of carbon dioxide emission tend to go hand in hand. So far society has not come off with an adequate replacement for trucks and big rigs that need the power a combustion engine provided. In the United States there are millions of cars on the road on a daily bases so if we could lower our dependency on the fossil fuels and switch to cleaner forms of energy such as solar for our electrical needs that would lower the cost of electric vehicles. This would reduce the need for alternate fuel sources such biofuels. These biofuels do present an interesting way for us to recycle the non-edible part of crops such as the corn stover. Where we would have tilled it into the ground we would be able to use the remains as a source of fuel to power diesels that could be converted to biodiesel. The reality of food for fuel has a few positives but the costs are heavy leading it to be a form of alternative fuel that impractical with a growing global population. Efficient solar power for the roofs of cars has a lengthy way to go but considering there are close to three hundred million cars on the road in the United States biofuels could be a small step forward in the global thinking
