Joe was accused of shop lifting, but he knows for a fact that he did not commit a crime. He needed a lawyer to help him prove his innocence. Although being a defense lawyer is not an easy job, considering they have to persuade a jury and judge, it is a very important job. Without them it would be a lot harder to set innocent people free or put guilty people behind bars.
“Criminal lawyers, also known as defense lawyers, specialize in cases dealing with offenses committed against society or the state, such as theft, murder, or arson.” Lawyers also help their clients know and recognize their rights under law and help achieve them in front of a judge (“Lawyers and Judges” 194). Lawyers do a lot of analyzing with large amounts of information, so they should have good analyzing skills. It is also helpful, when working with clients, that lawyers gain the respect and confidence of their clients by building trust relationships. By building this trust, clients will feel comfortable sharing important pieces of information to help with the case lawyers are working with. Having the ability to problem solve is significant, in order to separate ones emotions and prejudices from clients’ problems, lawyers cannot be very opinionated. Researching is something lawyers do a lot of and preparing legal advice and representation for a client requires research. Lawyers speak on their clients’ behalf, so they must master being able to clearly present, speak, explain, and argue in front of a judge and jury (“Lawyers”). They also must be able to defend the client, and help them prove their innocence. When writing and preparing documents, they need to be very explicit and include lots of detail and be as precise and specific as possible (“Lawyers”). To be a lawyer, one must be able to deal with complex cases and ideas. Patience and being reasonable is very important as well. Just as much as being able to tolerate clients, lawyers cannot be reserved, they need to be open with their clients so they can return the favor (“Lawyers and …show more content…
This is when their writing skills come into play. Researching and legal writing is something lawyers will do the most of. In some cases, some lawyers will represent their clients, so they must have confidence. Lawyers are hired to inform clients of their legal rights. In order to do so, one must be very responsible, reasonable, and logical. Cases involve crimes such as murder, robbery, assault, and fraud, so be prepared for investigating in any crime
