About 7 years ago when I was in my home country, I witnessed a girl get bullied for having a birthmark that veiled the right side of her face. People called her ugly, obnoxious, and worthless. Some even stopped their kids from interacting with her, because they believed she brought misfortune and agony. Even though I never used such words for her, it does not mean that they never travelled from my mind to the tip of my tongue. I was ignorant and uneducated about what beauty meant. At that time, women were idolized for having pale skin, raven eyes, and thick luscious hair however, there were only a few who met that criteria.
