Coming of age happens to everyone, whether it’s moving from elementary school to middle school, getting a car, or graduating high school and advancing into the society in the real world. However, it’s not just a walk through the park or a regular day that will be passed. Almost everyone who comes of age goes through the same stages of acquiring maturity, responsibility, and being independent which comes with struggles and prosperity. First of all, when you come of age, it doesn’t mean to run around like a crazy person in public, because now you’re out of the stage when you used to play tag in 2nd grade. That’s where maturity comes in. Maturity means that you’re fully developed physically and mentally. For example, when you are hired for a job and you act like a child your boss might think that you aren’t ready to be a part of that sort of occupation, so you might be fired. Another example of being mature can relate to high schoolers. Being independent means not to depend on others and being able to have freedom. Independence can go two ways. When being independent and receiving freedom you could do many things. For example, you could drive, go any place you want to, and make your own decisions. However, decision making connects with responsibility and maturity. You could either make wise decisions or foolish decisions that can lead you to jail.
