Life with pride
What is pride? Pride has multiple definitions. Pride can be referred as a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction coming from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired. In my opinion, there are three different ways people handle pride. Those being, healthy pride where you have a correct level of pride and humbleness. Overly prideful where one is overbearing and convinced they have superiority. Lacking pride where someone has a loss of self worth and no self respect for themselves. It is good to be aware of all three different levels of pride so you don’t tend to be one extreme or the other.

The brother is an example of healthy pride in this situation because he is proud of a large achievement and he has tried very hard for what has achieved. Opposite from healthy pride is overly prideful. Overly prideful is where one is overbearing and convinced they have superiority. I have dealt with people that only talk about themselves and pump themselves up which makes others around them think they are better than everyone else or judging others. these types of people tend to make others not want to be around them because they can't find happiness and don't relate to others equally. An example of this is when the brother in the story Scarlet Ibis says “They did not know that i did it or myself: that pride, whos slave I was, spoke to me louder than all there voices and that Doodle walked only because i was ashamed of having a crippled brother.”(Hurst, 3) This quote means that people thought the brother was helping Doodle so that he can be better but the brother was actually helping doodle because he was ashamed of him and didn't want to be embarrassed. In my opinion i think the brother was too worried about what others would have thought negatively instead of being thankful that Doodle was
