Delta Zeta at the University of Connecticut was suspended due to hazing. The university sent a letter to the Delta Zeta president explaining that the sorority was placed under ‘interim suspension effective immediately’. The ladies forced fraternity men to dog treats and paint their bodies and wear lady thongs while taking body-shots off of each other. They also had to consume alcohol and do other things that are not being published. Jeanine Triplett, national president of Delta Zeta, said, “The Sorority does not condone hazing and it committed to its eradication. These alleged actions are an embarrassment and disappointment not only to Delta Zeta sorority, but to the entire Greek community”. A psychology professor at the University interviewed thirty five of the sisters. Twenty-three of the members were asked to leave the organization. The twenty three members asked to leave were all overweight and that also included the only Korean and Vietnamese members. The twelve students that were asked to stay were the pretty, popular females with fraternity boyfriends. Six of those twelve members that were left were so mad that they decided to leave. Some of the girls had such poor self-image after that and had to drop classes due to depression. The president of DePauw, Robert G. Bottoms, sent a two-page letter of reprimand to the sorority. In an interview he said, “I had not hint they were going to disrupt the chapter with a membership reduction of this proportion in the middle of the year. It’s been very upsetting.” Despite some belief, Delta Zeta is a great sorority to join. One of the sisters of the DePauw chapter said, “I had a sister I could go to the bar with if I had boy problems. I had a sister I could talk about religion with. I had as sister I could be nerdy about science with. That’s why I liked Delta Zeta, because I had all these amazing women around me”
