My whole life I have wondered what I would be when I grew up. As I have watched those who influence me the most, I have noticed one commonality. They have all done good for others and for me. Being raised in an environment where service to others has been an important part of my everyday life, it has been engrained in my heart a feeling and desire to do the same for others. Now I am at the point in my life of deciding what I will be when I grow up, I have decided that whatever I choose to do I am going to be sure that it is a pathway that will enable me to help others. This definitely goes along with a service oriented career. I believe that families are part of God’s central plan of happiness for each of us. This is an important belief of mine. I want to choose a career that allows me to have my main focus on my family, because of this I want a career that has flexible hours. A dental hygienist is the perfect job for the flexibility that I am looking for. Dental hygiene will allow me to create a schedule that caters to my own personal wants and needs. A dental hygienist gets the option to either work full or part time which will be perfect for me when I decide to have a family.

There were a series of classes that started my Sophomore year with Fundamentals of Health Professions. Then my Junior year I continued and took Dental Assisting I, along with Medical Terminology, and Anatomy and Physiology. I have continued my Senior year to take classes such as Dental Assisting II these classes have given me a strong foundation for a career as a health care provider. Not only did this build a bases for my knowledge, but it has given me a priceless opportunity with wonderful insight of what it takes to become a dental hygienist. Idaho Department of Labor encourages those hoping to pursue a career as a dental hygienist to take high school courses such as Anatomy and Physiology, Computer Fundamentals, Dental Assisting, Health Education, Keyboarding, Safety and First Aid (Idaho Department of Labor). The dental assisting capstone classes have required me to go and observe in a dental office. This has helped show me what it is really like to be in the dental office setting. The more I get to experience and see the medical field through the eyes of a dental hygienist the more I know that I'm going to love
