The procedure/services the dental hygienist Angel Ayala provided to most of his patients while I was observing consisted of scaling, root planning, periodontal charting, administering fluoride, and giving specific oral hygiene instructions for at-home care. It was clear that one of the patients had periodontal disease, so the dental hygienist took pictures of the patient’s teeth. The pictures were taken so the dental hygienist can refer to them as he observes the progress during future visits. Additionally, the hygienist consistently asked each patient [regardless if they were a new or returning patient] if they were taking any new medications, or if they have developed new allergies, and if anything was discomforting them.
