During this week assignment I decided to interview Dr. Roy E. Barkoe who is a dentist in the Boca Raton area. I selected him because he has practiced dentistry for more than 40 years, and his office is located in my living area. Dr. Barkoe attended and graduated from New York University College of Dentistry where he received his D.D.S. degree. With this degree, he enlisted in the US Air Force Dental Corps and completed several post-doctoral residencies at Elgin Air Force Base in Florida. He has also completed many continuing education courses in Implantology, Periodontics, Oral Surgery, and Cosmetic Dentistry.

8. What is the most rewarding part of your job? Most challenging?
The most rewarding part of my job is when I am able to get my patients out of pain. I feel so happy when they arrive to my office with a terrible toothache and they leave with pleasure and gratitude. The most challenging part in a general dentist practice is to find the perfect team, they are who really make a successful practice.
9. Thinking back to a person that you thought was great at this profession, what were the characteristics that made them great?
My dental school professor was an excellent doctor. What made him great was his love for the dental practice. That love in his hand was the perfect tool for him to success. He was passionate and perfectionist, that was a very good combination.
10. How much time do you put in to keeping up with the advances in your field?
I attend to continuing education courses very frequently and I also go to seminars at least twice a year. That is the way I have found to keep up with the advances in dentistry.
