Imagine playing in the Nation Football League also known as the NFL … the crowd roaring and cheering but you can’t hear them. Imagine playing for the best football team in the NFL and winning a Super Bowl Championship. Imagine people doubting you your whole life because you're deaf and they expect you to amount to nothing. Imagine being Derrick Coleman and going through all the struggles and hardships that he has went through to live out his dream of becoming an NFL football player.
Derrick Coleman was born October 18th, 1990. He first became aware of his deafness when he was three years old and his family took him to an audiologist that he would eventually see throughout his life until the end of High School. At a young age he experienced a lot of bullying, which made him start taking his anger out in other things instead of fighting and getting in trouble.

But his junior year he finally got his shot, he became the second leading rusher on the team also he would win the Tommy prothro award for the most outstanding special teams player. After his senior year Derrick was hoping that his dream would come true, and that dream was to make it to the NFL. But that didn’t stop him, he kept working and grinding until an NFL team came and picked him up. The Minnesota Vikings was the team that chose to pick up a deaf kid by the name of Derrick Coleman from California.
All his hard work had finally paid off. Eventually the Vikings would let him go, but he would then be picked up by the Seattle Seahawks would utilize him a lot to help them when a Superbowl and become one of the most dominant fullbacks in the NFL. He also was chosen to represent Duracell battery company in a commercial to promote hearing aid batteries.This commercial brought awareness to the Deaf community by providing a strong male Deaf successful football
