The different body structures and organ systems that I observed while dissecting the worm, crayfish, and pig had many differences. The crayfish was very slimy and had a very strong fish smell. The crayfish also had gills, two teeth, and one heart which the worm did not. The pig’s body structure was almost identical to ours just a lot smaller. The crayfish also had eyes and antennas. The worm was longer than the crayfish and also had a more rubbery texture to its skin. The worm has 5 hearts as well as no liver. The worm also had no specific gender it is both male and female. The worm, pig, and crayfish also breathe differently. The worm does not have a nose so they breathe through the pores on their skin. The crayfish, however, breathes through their gills that are located on each side of the body. The pig breathed through the nose. …show more content…
The worm does not need to have gills like the crayfish does because the worm does not live in water. Antennas like the ones the crayfish has would be useless to the worm considering the worm is located in the dirt and does not have eyes. Crayfish use their antennae to help swim in the water because they do not have very good eyesight. Crayfish have two sets of teeth because they eat plankton. Worms, however, do not have any teeth because they depend on the decaying roots and nutrients that come from the soil as food. So, teeth would be no use for the worm. The pig lives on land. Therefore it has set of lungs to breathe oxygen, two sets of walking legs, and good eyesight and smell. Similarities that I found while dissecting the worm, crayfish, and pig is that they both had very tiny hearts. In comparison to our hearts, the worm and crayfish were no bigger than a pea. Another similarity would be that they both had a dorsal artery. The dorsal artery is what sends blood through the body of the
