Don’t you hate it when you have that dark hole of guilt? Or the coldness that eats you alive as time passes by? Well in the novel Tangerine, Paul suffers with the desire to tell the things that everyone is blinded by, but he has this grey wall that holding his mouth shut and keeping him from moving forward. He then realizes that no one can see everything through his perspective as he just sits there, so he steps up for himself and slowly defeats the wall that is keeping him from telling the truth. As you read past Part 1, 2, and 3, you can see how Paul grows and fights everyone that is pulling him down so that he can defeat his brother Erik. Erik is hiding behind a lie and Paul will set him free by standing up for himself and tell everyone that Erik isn’t who he really is. As Erik puts his football helmet his head, everyone sees him as a normal guy that loves football. But under that helmet holds the monster who has destroyed Lake Windsor’s mailboxes and stole everyone’s belongings. He also destroyed Paul’s self esteem to speak up and his vision to see anything that happens about him. Maybe that’s why Erik wanted to spray paint Paul’s eyes, so that he wouldn’t tell on Erik and that Paul wouldn’t see the truths and lies that everyone had been hiding behind his
