Background: Chaz VanNatter was referred for an assessment of intellectual functioning by Sead Hadziahmetovic, MD, inpatient psychiatrist at Maricopa Integrated Health System (Desert Vista Behavioral Health Center). Mr. VanNatter is a 23-year-old male who is court-ordered for treatment (COT) for persistently or acutely disabled (PAD) behaviors. According to the petition paperwork, he had been exposing himself to neighbors and family members and was assaultive towards his grandmother, most recently hitting her in the head while she was driving. He was taken to Recovery Innovations where he refused to cooperate with a voluntary evaluation.

During the Admission Psychiatric Evaluation at Desert Vista, Mr. VanNatter appeared to be extremely distracted and disorganized; he made odd body and upper extremity movements and bizarre comments. He typically responded to questions with one or two words. He was unable to provide background information. He appeared disheveled, agitated, and suspicious. VanNatter’s grandmother reported that his mother used drugs throughout her pregnancy and gave drugs to Mr. VanNatter to calm him down until he was 14 years of age. She did not know the specific drugs that were used. At age 14, Mr. VanNatter’s father obtained custody and he has lived with his father and grandmother since this time, with the exception of his two years in prison. He has not been in school since 7th grade; there is no background information about his education. He was in prison for two years, from ages 15 through 17. Mr. VanNatter is unable to report what he has been doing since his release from prison. It appears that he has no job and is not involved in activities outside of his home. His grandmother reported that Mr. VanNatter has had a history of violence towards her since December
