In the first three scenes, Stanley says and do whatever he wants without thinking about the consequences or what other people think about him. Most of his behavior is the result of his id because he constantly wants to satisfy his own needs. In order for Stanley’s mental health to be restored, he has to listen more to his superego. His superego will help him realize that he can’t have everything his way. In the first scene, Stanley asks Blanche if he could take off his shirt but he took off his shirt before Blanche could reply. This action shows how conceited Stanley is and how he doesn’t listen to people’s suggestions. In the second scene, Stanley complains to Stella about Blanche hiding the money when Blanche lost Belle Reve. He refers the Napoleonic Code because the code says that the husband and wife should have rightful share of the money. Stanley even goes through Blanche’s trunk and says that all her expensive clothing is bought from the money she got from Belle Reve. Stanley knows that Blanche is in the shower and that she can hear every word of the conversation. His attitude and actions show that he doesn’t mind if he offends people. Stanley also reveals to Blanche that Stella is pregnant. He tells Blanche the secret so that he can have an excuse for his earlier sudden outburst over Belle Reve. In the third scene, Stanley throws the radio out of the window because he already told Blanche to turn it off. Stella yells at Stanley as a result and Stanley starts abusing her. Stanley was originally mad at Blanche but he took all his anger out on Stella. Stanley’s id controls most of his behavior. He puts his happiness first.
