Dictatorship vs. Democracy William Golding’s Lord of the Flies tells a story through two different leaderships; dictatorship and democracy. Children landed on an island with the crash of the plane in which they were traveling. They picked their leader as Ralph, but Jack wanted to be a leader too. Ralph led children through democratic way and dictatorship was the way that Jack wants to leads the children. However, Jack’s dictatorship overtakes Ralph’s democratic power and some tipping point of the reasons are because Jack doesn’t follow the rules, cares about the short-term future, and turns people’s respect to fear. In the beginning of the book, children look for a leader who can set up rules and knows what to do, like a leader in the society
