Cisneros uses diction in the novel by putting spanish words to show relationship to Esperanza. In the book the author uses spanish words when a character that has sentimental value to Esperanza are addressed. In the, “ Your abuelito is dead, Papa says early one morning in my room. Está muerto”(56). Not only is this situation an emotional, it also shows the way in which Cisneros uses diction. She decides to have the grandpa be addressed as “abuelito”. In the hispanic culture this would a form of love towards that person in a way that it is personal.
