Charlotte Perkins Gilman is a famous American novelist with her best-seller semi-autobiography entitled ‘The Yellow Wallpaper.’ Her outstanding contributions in feminist and reformist movements has made her name inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame. Her support towards feminism is due to the feelings of resentment toward her father who abandoned her mother and siblings. Since she had to go through a difficult childhood life due to family and poverty problems, she only received formal education for two years. After reading so many books to gain knowledge, her passion in writing and literature becomes stronger. After going through a divorce with her husband and separation with her daughter, Gilman wrote ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’ to express the problems she had suffered into a

Although this story has the elements of suspense, Gilman’s real intention was not to scare the reader, but as mentioned in her article, Gilman wrote this story to give encouragement to women who have similar problems and help them out of the trouble. In my opinion, this short story was one of the great efforts to raise the unsung women's voices and the fight for feminism.
