For whom did Jesus sacrifice Himself? Is Jesus the Savior of only the rich and mighty? To whom is the Gospel to be delivered? These are reasonable questions in light of some in society viewing the impoverished, widowed, diseased, downtrodden, and racially or gender different as outcasts. The answers to these questions can be found within the Book of Luke (Holy Bible). The Book of Luke is unique to the other Gospels in that he includes many of the disadvantaged people of the first-century society. These include the poor, ill, demon-possessed, the Samaritans, and women. To appreciate the answers to the previously posed questions and uniqueness of his Gospel, it is important to have the background of the writer, Luke, and the audience to whom he writes. Luke is known to be a physician by profession (Colossians 4:14). As a result of this profession, he was highly educated, factually driven, and presumably he would have interacted with people of various status in society, domestic situations, and perhaps of religious …show more content…
He focused in great detail on how the Good Samaritan cared for the beaten man. Because he was a physician, this action to help others was most likely a high priority for him. He valued life over all differences. That being said, he values the person themselves and shows the humbling nature to overlook earthly differences. The parable of the Good Samaritan shows that everyone is our neighbor. It doesn’t matter the person’s position or ethnicity. Living a Christ like life means to love and care for all people. It also expresses that one should not judge by appearances/position. For example, one would think the priest and Levite would be upstanding people and fully understand how we are to live and treat each other.
