As M. Scott Peck at one time said, “Share our similarities, celebrate our differences.” Throughout the history of the world, most things have either been similar or different. This is the same for the countries of America and France. But not just the countries themselves, their revolutions and what caused them too. There were many factors in what started these two “rebellions.” Between them, there were many similarities and differences and without them, America and France wouldn’t look like they do today. Some similarities between the causes of the American revolution of 1765 and the French revolution of 1789 include the wanting of freedom from another country and the people and citizens being able to make this happen. A difference between these two events would be the time and effects of the two documents of freedom that, altogether, sparked the liberation of these countries. One of the differences between the causes of these revolutions is the time and effects of the revolutionary documents (Declaration of Independence, Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen) that were written. The Declaration of Independence was written on July fourth of 1776, which was after the revolution that took place in 1765. However, the Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen was written in 1789 which was during the ten year French revolution. The time difference of these occurrences is twenty four years. This is a long time variation for two history-shaping events that were so similar. The impacts that these documents had on the revolutions was also enormous.
