There are similarities and differences in these two stories. The message in both is to stand up to tyranny and oppression. Someone has to speak up for weak because they can’t do it for themselves. These stories are effective in different ways. These two writers come from different perspectives. Niemoller spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps. He spoke freely from his personal experience. His message comes from a different number of settings. It had many varying groups such as Communist, Jews, trade unionists, and Catholics. His point was that it is unethical to sit around in silence and allow Nazi imprisonment and the murder of millions of people to happen. This effect is very direct and upsetting to think about.
