Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln were heroic men who fought for liberty and freedom. Lincoln wanted peace and liberty. Just a country without war or contention. Then there was Douglass was the survivor of pain and emotional depression, getting beaten every day. He could have gone out saying I was treated like an unequal person, I was beaten and hurt every day, now I’m going to do that to everyone else so they know how it felt. He instead came out of that with the feeling, as he quotes, “I felt as one may imagine the unarmed mariner to feel when his is rescued by a friendly man-of-war from the pursuit of a pirate.” (pg. 71) Or meaning he had a feeling he had never felt before.
