The two pieces Charters and Fueros and the Digger Pamphlet by Gerrard Winstanley discuss similar issues, being how non-elites reacted with elites in Europe, or in simpler terms how the two groups lived together and flourished off of each other. There are similarities in the two pieces, but also some very significant differences. The Charters and Fueros are documents written between 1077-1155 in Spain and France for the townships of Lorris, Jaca, and Siurana. The Digger Pamphlet by Gerrard Winstanley was written after the overthrowing of King Charles of England in 1649. Much has changed in the world from 1000’s to 1600’s, and that’s a good reason why elites and non-elites in the two pieces relationships were different for one another. The main issue in Charters and Fueros is how the kings/elites could benefit from the peasants or non-elites. The elites would support the town and its people for services in return. In each of the three charters the towns elites had different rules that must be followed if the non-elites wanted to live on their land. The non-elites would have to pay taxes, which were often tithes, and give first fruits to the elites. In Charters and Fueros the elites own the property they give to the peasants, and make them follow strict guidelines in order to live there, while in the Diggers Pamphlet by Gerrard Winstanley the peasants are free to do what they please with the land, that parliament has designated as common grounds. So the main difference between the two is that the lands are either owned by the elites, or considered common ground. The other differences were less severe, mainly being how the peasants lived in the two different pieces, and certain laws they had to
