Dignified Birth- A dignified birth is when a character is born into a rich or powerful family. The character may be a successor to the king or have an inheritance of money passed down from earlier generations. There are many ways in which a character may have a dignified birth. In Antigone, Creon is the brother of Jocasta the queen of Thebes, and therefore born into power. Creon exclaims, “Now I rule as next of Kin.” (Line 210). As he was on the bloodline to be king giving him a dignified birth. Having a dignified birth in a tragedy is significant when trying to make the message clearer, it demonstrates that the misfortune can happen to anyone even those with money or authority.
