Introduction The purpose of this paper is to introduce the topic of the Dionne Quintuplets and illustrate how their birth in Corbeil, Ontario in 1934 became a sensation all over the world. First, I will provide more context about the Dionne Quintuplets, why their birth drew so much amazement from the public but also controversy. Second, I will discuss the context of the Globe and Mail and how it was an important source of news at the time. Finally, I will analyze four newspaper articles about the Dionne Quintuplets from the Globe and Mail, and examine how these events were depicted. This paper argues that during the depression of the 1930's the Dionne Quintuplets became a triumph, one that was captured much by media attention.Their survival brought some universal hope and escapism to a rather dark time.
