The American Dream is as alive as it has ever been, but what does that really mean? I’ve heard that the American Dream is all about being able to rise from nothing to the absolute top. But, females generally only make about 79 cents of a man’s dollar, African Americans make less, and hispanics make even less. Only truly being able to get 79% of the way to the economic top is not exactly fulfilling the dream. An immigrant may come to America looking for the American Dream that everyone is equal and has equal opportunity. But they might be racially discriminated against or their prior education could be completely worthless. A friend’s dad is an Iranian immigrant who was an experienced physician in Iran, but when he came to America, seeking the opportunity to escape the turmoil that existed after the revolution, his prior experience and education were completely nullified, causing him to have to find another profession after spending a ton of time and money to become a physician. …show more content…
He lost his sense of safety and his esteemed profession by coming to America; however, he swears that America is the greatest country in the world and the American dream is thriving.
