Content - During a time of draught in Bethlehem, a man named Elimelech, his wife Naomi, and his two sons, Mahlon and Chilion, move east to the fields of Moab with their two sons. The sons marry women from Moab, Ruth and Orpah. Over time, Elimelech and his two sons die. This leaves Naomi, Ruth, and Orpah widows, childless and in dire circumstances. Naomi decides to return to Bethlehem to be with her family and her daughters-in-law want to join her. Naomi insists the girls to stay behind and remarry. Orpah is convinced and returns to Moab, however, Ruth pledges her dedication to Naomi, abandoning her gods and her people to remain part of Naomi's life.
Application- Ruth 1:16, perhaps one of my favorite bible verses. "Do not urge me to leave
